Daniel Update

Hi folks! I keep promising myself that I will update this blog weekly, but time certainly flies these days. Daniel had his well baby visit yesterday and received his first round of vaccines. He was supposed to get those shots about a month ago, but I kept finding reasons to postpone. I am not fond of people sticking my baby with needles, and I am even less fond of the possible reactions. However, we finally got them done, and Daniel did fine. Praise the Lord!!! He is currently in the 97th percentile for height and 90th percentile for weight. Can you believe that? Since I am only 5'4", I figured our kiddos would be on the short side. Perhaps not! Do we have a basketball player in our future?
In other news, Brian (and various family members we recruit) have been putting a fence around the back yard. Annie will be happy. Our poor dog has become low girl on the totem pole. Now she will at least have some room to play. Here is a photo we took several weeks ago. I came around the corner and was met with this sight. Brian had propped Daniel up against Annie. My first response was, "Get him off the dog! He just took a bath!" And then, I recovered and said, "Get the camera!" It certainly made for a great photo opportunity.

Two months old

Daniel is growing and changing every day. He is such a smiley little boy now. He even has begun cooing at us, which just melts my heart! His hair is growing in blond. Who would have thought that Brian would have a little blondie? Ha!
We are overcoming our exhaustion somewhat. Those first six weeks were tough. You are always told that new parents never get any sleep, but I guess it is hard to believe until you go through it. I learned you can go an entire month with only 2-3 hours of sleep per night. You are a zombie...but you can survive. Praise the Lord that we have our families nearby. They helped (and are still helping) tremendously!

One Month Old!

Daniel turned one month old on Wednesday. In some ways, it feels like we just came home from the hospital. He is really doing very well. Just recently, he started giving us some genuine smiles. It just melts my heart! His favorites things to do are watching his Mickey Mouse doll and sitting in his swing. Daniel is struggling with some gas pain. His little face turns incredibly red, and he lets off some ear piercing screams. We are trying to find ways to ease his discomfort and calm his fussiness. If anyone has some helpful hints, please pass them along!

He has arrived!

Daniel Scott entered this world at 5:33 a.m. on February 5th! He weighed 7 pounds 15 ounces and was 20 1/2 inches long. He has lots of light brown hair with golden highlights. His hands and feet were so big that they barely fit on the pre-cut cards for the birth certificate. Wow! Brian and I are overjoyed, yet exhausted. We came home from the hospital on Thursday evening and are developing our new routines. Daniel has been doing very well. We went to the doctor today, and he has already surpassed his birth weight after the initial loss. Now if we could just get him to sleep at night! He slumbers long periods during the day, but seems very alert when the sun goes down. Brian and I are just praying for sleep and enjoying this new little life God has created. He is our little miracle! We hope you enjoy the pictures.

Waiting...

For the past week, I have awoken with the thought, "Today might be our baby's birthday!" Day after day has passed, and we still wait expectantly for his arrival. We are trying to be in a state of constant readiness. The hospital bag is packed, the bills are paid, the house is reasonably clean, the nursery is ready...we could leave at any moment. And yet, I wake up every morning feeling much the same as I have for the past month. I am thankful this pregnancy has been relatively easy. I feel fine, even now, at nine months pregnant. Don't get me wrong...there are things I am ready to be done with. For example, I have not been able to wear my wedding ring for two months, because my hands are so swollen. I get tired easily. Rolling over in bed has become a major ordeal. Heartburn strikes frequently. The list goes on, but I praise God to have avoided many of the major pregnancy discomforts.
Our little baby will be arriving soon though, and my heart rejoices at the thought of meeting him. The Lord has been so gracious to us! Next time I post to this blog, I will have some photos to share of our little one. See you then!
