Happy Birthday, Brian!

Here is a photo of Brian taken on his second birthday. What a cutie!

And here is another photo of Brian, this one taken on his thirty-second birthday with his not quite two year old son. And he is still a cutie!

We have been told many times that Daniel looks so much like me (or my brother). However, as I flipped through Brian's childhood photo albums, I realized that our little blond hair, blue eyed boy most certainly does look like his father. Compare these two photos and see what I mean!

Brian at around 19 months.

Daniel at around 13 months.

Same cheesy smile...same little nose...same adorableness. Happy birthday, Brian. You mean the world to us.

Five years ago today

...Brian and I got engaged! I just adore our love story. We met in college when I was a freshman and he was a senior. We were at a harvest party for Christian Challenge. Brian knew how to swing dance, and I was watching from the sidelines as he took different girls around the floor. I desperately wanted to dance with him. And I about fainted when he asked me! We danced together for the rest of the night. A few weeks later, we began dating. However, God was calling both of us in different directions, so just after Christmas we went our separate ways. We remained friends, but slowly lost touch after he graduated. I had not talked to him for almost two years when an email arrived from him. He had moved about 2,000 miles away and was working as a hot shop technician in an art museum. Over the next two months we traded many, many emails. He returned home to see me in July, and we were engaged by August. The day he proposed is forever engraved on my mind. Brian and I had gotten up early to see the sunrise together. We were on a hill just south of my family's home. The sun was coming up over the water as we talked and read our devotionals together. On the water's edge landed several great white egrets. We ventured over to them for a closer view, and when I turned around, Brian was down on one knee asking me to marry him. Of course, I immediately said yes! He is my best friend and the love of my life. I am so thankful that God wrote such a sweet, sweet love story for us.

Where did November go?

November has been one busy month for us! I can hardly believe how fast time has gone. Brian and I did getaway one weekend to celebrate my birthday. We stayed the night in a castle!!! No, we did not travel to Scotland...this castle is located in our own home state. It was built in the late 1800's and now functions as a bed and breakfast. Here are some of the photos we took.

The above photo was taken on top of the turret. The view of the river and the city skyline was just beautiful.

As you can see, the woodwork inside the castle was amazing. We also loved the stained glass windows and tiled floors. This trip will probably be our last weekend getaway for quite some time, so I am thankful we had so much fun.

Our baby is due in approximately 67 days (not that I am counting or anything), so we are busy with preparations. I hung the curtains in the nursery today, which does not sound like much, but I was extremely excited! I have been feeling pretty tired lately, so every little thing is a major accomplishment. The baby had the hiccups last night, which felt so weird! He is positioned more on the right side of my body now, so my stomach looks kind of lopsided.

I will leave you with one final photo of Brian. When I was little, I loved watching Magnum P.I. and I started having flashbacks when Brian was posing for these. Does anyone else remember the opening of the show when Tom Selleck loads the clip into his gun? Brian re-enacted that scene perfectly!
